This template was made to help you build a Game Design Document for your next project. We've built an intuitive and easy to use template so you can skip straight to the part that matters: designing your game so it can be the best version of itself!
The template features a comprehensive GDD with multiple ready-to-use sections covering all facets of a AAA design document, as a well as a Feature Docs section. We’ve also created a lighter version for solo devs and small teams.

You are welcomed to use this document for any project of any scale. You can use, share, modify or build upon any part of the template, so long as you are not monetizing it.
Step 1 - At the top right of this page, you’ll find the duplicate button. Click on it to create your own copy of the template.
Step 2 - Select the location where you want to create the copy.
Note: A Notion account is required for this step
Now that you have your own copy, you can edit it as much as you want to fit your project’s needs. We’ve used < > marks to indicate parts you should edit, and Lorem Ipsum text to indicate the general length of a section, but those are broad guidelines, and every game is unique, so edit it as you see fit!
**Categories**
The document uses categories to help you structure your design and ensure coverage of every part of the game. Each category has subpages and/or subsections to cover for any aspect of your game that would require a deeper dive. You can use the button under any category to add a new subsection to it!
